Hi! I'm Steve, a BACP accredited counsellor. I work with adults on a one-to-one basis, offering a safe, non-judgemental, honest space.

The healing nature of a quality relationship with a close friend or loved one lies at the heart of self-development, that said, sometimes talking to a friend or loved one is not what we need. Sometimes we need a space simply for ourselves, somewhere where we can be truly honest without the worry of what we say affecting others. A place where our needs unashamedly come first. I can provide that space. Therapy represents a place to share whatever is on your mind in a non-judgmental, honest environment. Sometimes simply talking is a good place to start. Often feeling heard can be a release in itself. Every person is unique. My goal is to meet you as you are and then together discover what you need to move forward.

Experience

As well as experience of practicing within an NHS setting I have a background of 30 years working with children and adults in a pastoral role. A lot of my work has been helping people to make sense of their life and accept the things that they can change as well as the things they cannot. I trained as an Integrative Counsellor which enables me to draw on a range of theories listed below to provide individually tailored support to best meet your needs.

My approach

Existential therapy, Gestalt Humanistic, Person-centred, Solution focussed.

Put simply, what I aim to do is take my filter off and really connect with what comes up for me as I hear your story. Sometimes I feel we rehearse what we are going to say before we say it, often for very understandable reasons. By taking my filter off my aim is to help support you to see what is truly going on for you.

Qualifications

Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling Iron Mill College Exeter

You have already made the first, most difficult step in even considering therapy and I offer you my support in taking it further. During our first session we can start to explore what brought you to this point and discover whether we are a good match to work through this together. This will be your therapy and you will decide where it will go.
