About

Tony Hardy

 Registered Counsellor

I qualified in January 2018 with a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling from Coleg Gwent and established myself in private practice in 2019. Prior to that I worked as a volunteer counsellor with a cognitive assistance programme and a mental health charity.

After qualification I studied for a Foundation in Systemic Theory and Practice (Family Therapy) at the University of Bath, and I have recently completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of South Wales in Newport. I am now working towards a Counselling Supervision qualification.

I have worked successfully with male and female clients aged from 16 to 75, presenting with depression, anxiety, stress, loss/grief, low confidence, low self-esteem, eating disorders, trauma, and anger issues, and have supported survivors of domestic abuse and childhood sexual abuse. My approach with individuals is primarily person-centred, but I work from a relational, integrative stance which means I am able to pull in techniques and interventions from other approaches where appropriate.

I have also helped a wide range of couples to work through issues in their relationships. I use a model known as Transactional Analysis, which I find works well at helping couples to improve their communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. I have also recently used a Systemic Approach to help a mother and daughter resolve a family dispute.

I am trained to work face-to-face, online (using Zoom) and over the telephone.

I regularly attend training events in fields as diverse as Suicide Intervention, Domestic Abuse, Child Abuse, Eating Disorders, Creative Writing in the Therapeutic Encounter, Emotional Freedom Therapy, Men, Intimacy and Shame, Neurodiversity, Mindfulness and Chanting for Inner Peace.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). My practice is regularly supervised and operates within the BACP Ethical Framework.
